Okay, glad that you decided to keep reading!
That already shows you have the willpower and determination.
Now, have you heard of Napoleon Hill?
- He interviewed 500 of the richest men
- Analyzed their successes down to 13 principles
- And presented his findings in a book titled Think and Grow Rich aka “Granddaddy of all Motivational Literature”
Even today, 80 years after its first publication, it’s still the #1 bestseller in budgeting and money management on Amazon.
Forbes also published an article on Hill's work by Dr. Grace Lee in January, which explains the science behind Hill’s findings and why it works. This shows how relevant Hill’s work still is today.
Hill believed to achieve your goals you need to start with a BURNING DESIRE
- A burning desire is something you desperately and passionately want.
- You want it so much that it becomes an obsession.
So, first, make becoming an entrepreneur your burning desire.
Hill said:
“Wishing will not bring riches. But desiring riches with a state of mind that becomes an obsession, then planning definite ways and means to acquire riches, and backing those plans with persistence which does not recognize failure, will bring riches.”
Second, your burning desire needs to be backed by a definite purpose, not just passion.
It’s important to have passion, but Dr. Grace Lee explains that passions are impulses toward pleasure and instincts to avoid pain.
She further points out:
“It’s no coincidence that the first principle in “Think and Grow Rich” is to have a burning desire backed by definite purpose, not passion. It activates the prefrontal cortex that initiates persistent and consistent action toward your goals.”
Therefore, having a burning desire, knowing what you want, and understanding your “reason why” will give you clarity and focus as you achieve your goals.
Third, you need to have a definite plan.
Do this by being specific and definite when defining your goals and plans.
- Conduct well-though-out research and keep it organized
- Research "how to become an entrepreneur"
- Read business and entrepreneur articles and blogs
- Research
- What kind of education or background do you need?
- What resources do you need?
- Who can you use as a resource?
- Determine what you will up in return for what you desire
- For example:
- Time
- Money
- Set due dates to hold yourself accountable to achieving your goals
- For example:
- Start researching by 7/29
- Sign up for a business class by 7/31
- Draft up resources 8/4
- Create 1st rough draft of your business plan or goals by 8/11
Fourth, you need persistence.
Hill said:
“Examine the first hundred people you meet, ask them what they want most in life, and ninety eight of them will not be able to tell you. If you press them for an answer, some will say-SECURITY...MONEY...HAPPINESS..., but none of them will be able to define these terms, or give the slightest indication of a PLAN by which they hope to attain these vaguely expressed wishes. Riches do not respond to wishes. They respond only to definite plans, backed by definite desires, through constant PERSISTENCE."
- You can develop persistence by
- Continuing to try when faced with challenges
- Viewing failure as a temporary defeat
- Learning from your mistakes
- Creating new plans when your first plans don’t work
- Shutting out negative and discouraging influences.
- Joining or creating a group of people who will encourage you, keep you accountable, and help you achieve your goals
If you have
- a burning desire backed by a definite purpose
- a definite, well-thought-out, and organized plan
- and apply persistence or determination into all parts of your life
You can practice Napoleon Hill’s principles to achieve success in any goal or any other line of work.
Share this with the aspiring entrepreneurs in your life or anyone who wants to reach their goals!
